While you're out and about this week admiring Jack-o'-lanterns, I wanted to give praise to the all mighty pumpkin for year-round power!
Pumpkin Seed Oil is one of the most nutrient dense plant oils out there. It's rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, B2, C, and E, as well as many minerals including iron, copper, manganese and zinc.
The pumpkin, or Cucurbita pepo, belongs to the melon family (Cucurbitaceae), botanically related to the melons, cantaloupes, squashes, gourds, gherkins, and other cucurbits such as cucumbers and zucchini. And yes, it is a fruit, even though it resembles a vegetable!
The seeds of the pumpkin, or pepitas, are flat and oval, sought after for their nutrient-packed profile. Cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil is extracted from these nutrient-dense seeds. With over 60% unsaturated fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6, the skin-healing properties of pumpkin seed oil has been valued in many countries for generations.
Primarily, pumpkin seed oil is highly prized for its lifting and tightening effect on the skin. It is a lightweight oil that readily absorbs into the skin, leaving it hydrated and renewed, without clogging pores. Natural vitamin C helps the production of collagen that retains skin elasticity while also plumping and building firmness of the skin. Suitable for most skin types, the unsaturated fatty acids (such as, palmitic, oleic, and linoleic acids) in the oil containing antioxidant properties correct skin inflammation and promote healing and new skin-cell growth. The soothing and smoothing effects of the oil help to even out age-related blemishes and wrinkles. The antioxidants of the vitamin A present in the oil protect the skin from sun damage. The vitamin B2 in the oil is great for dryness and acne, also bringing about an improved skin tone and radiance of the skin. In addition to the fatty acids, pumpkin seed oil is rich in vitamin E and carotenoids that help your skin look visibly younger.
As you can see pumpkin seed oil is packed with all kinds of wonderful skin benefits. That’s why it's one of my favourite oils!
